Text messaging to increase flu and antibiotic use awareness – Health Net
Health Net was selected for its Be Health Wise with Health Net initiative that delivered a 10-week text messaging and email campaign covering topics related to flu and the appropriate use of antibiotics. The program set out to help improve influenza vaccination rates and to educate members in California, Oregon and Arizona on when and when not to take antibiotics, with the goal of reducing unnecessary antibiotic use for conditions such as influenza and acute bronchitis.
Participants received a pre- and post-test survey to gauge their understanding about the flu and appropriate use of antibiotics, and to measure whether they increased their knowledge after completion of the text messaging campaign. Over the course of the program, participants’ average scores increased by 10% to an average level of 92%.
Finalists
In addition to the winners, there were three finalists. Cigna was recognized for its Pharmacy Claim Enhancement auto-pay capability which provides instant access to medications at point of sale through integrated claims systems. Hubbub Health was selected for its technology-driven wellness tool used by employers and their employees to encourage small, achievable healthy activities that will ultimately change habits over time. PerformRx was noted for its Foster Care Drug Therapy Management Program, focused on optimizing medication regimens for members enrolled in foster care.
