Compounded drugs have significantly grown in usage and development in the past five years, raising significant question about efficacy, appropriateness, safety, and reimbursement. A report was recently released by CompPharma to address many of the questions and concerns surrounding these compounded drugs, especially within the workers compensation sphere. According to this report, compounds have not proven to be more effective than available FDA approved medications, are not often medically necessary, and can pose safety risks to patients.
