Affordable Care Act to Encourage the Creation of Consumer Operated and Oriented Plans (CO-OPs)
Affordable Care Act to Encourage the Creation of Consumer Operated and Oriented Plans (CO-OPs)
Please join U.S. Department of Health and Human Services officials, Steve Larsen and Richard Popper, on a conference call to discuss efforts to encourage the creation of Consumer Operated and Oriented Plans (CO-OPs), new non-profit, consumer-governed health plans that will help increase choice for consumers and small businesses participating in Affordable Insurance Exchanges starting in 2014.
Last week, HHS proposed a framework for establishing CO-OPs, and announced that loans will be available as start-up funding. CO-OPs are designed to empower consumers and small businesses to take control of their own health insurance. CO-OPs will be directed by their customers and offer more affordable, customer-friendly and high quality health insurance options. CO-OPs are required to use their profits to lower premiums, improve health benefits, improve the quality health care, expand enrollment, or otherwise contribute to the stability of coverage for members.
A replay of the call will be available until 11pm on August 26, 2011 by calling 800-839-8263. No passcode is necessary.
